A kitchen remodel with Kanna Construction & Remodeling is exciting and forward-moving toward your dream space. This does, however, mean living without your usual cooking area for a while. Not to worry-with some smart planning, you can create a functional temporary kitchen to keep your daily life running during the renovation work. Check out our kitchen renovation options.

Choose a Location for Your Temporary Kitchen

First, find a good location for your temporary kitchen. Consider the following locations:

  • Spare bedroom
  • Dining room
  • Finished basement
  • Garage (if weather permits)
  • Living room or sunroom

Opt for a location with easy access to electricity and water. If possible, locate near a bathroom or laundry room sink for ease in washing dishes.

Must-Have Appliances and Equipment

Outfit your temporary kitchen with these basics:

  • Portable electric cooktop
  • Toaster oven
  • Microwave
  • Crockpot
  • Electric kettle
  • Mini-fridge or cooler

And don’t forget the basics: cutting board, sharp knife, and pans/pots. A portable countertop dishwasher will make all the difference in the world in keeping your temporary space clean.

Smart Storage Solutions

Maximize your limited space with:

  • Folding tables for counter space
  • Drawer units for utensils and dishes
  • Open shelving for easy access to frequently used items
  • Plastic storage bins for pantry staples and dry goods

Meal Planning and Prep

Simplify your cooking routine:

  • Utilize one-pot meals and slow-cooker recipes
  • Prepare and freeze meals in advance
  • Keep a supply of easy-to-prepare foods on hand
  • Use your outdoor grill when the weather allows
  • Staying Organized and Flexible
  • Label containers clearly
  • Store frequently used items in easy-to-reach locations
  • Clean up after each meal to keep the space clean
  • Be prepared for unexpected changes in the renovation timeline
